What we do

Referrals are accepted from 211, from area non-profits or the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Families may also be self-referred. Once a family completes an over the phone intake, an in-person interview, and passes a background check, Family Promise schedules their move in.

Families are given a copy of the Handbook and Guidelines. We operate under the premise that all families wish to reach their goal of finding a home. We are an asset-based organization and build on all the positive strengths a family brings when they come to Family Promise. Our parents are all adults and we treat them with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Children go to and from school at the Day Center. During the school year we have a tutor come to Family Promise to help the kids with schoolwork for an hour a day. During the summer the tutor teaches for two hours a day. Did you know that a child loses three months of their education every time they move?

Parents, when not attending classes on tenancy, budgeting, nutrition or parenting, will actively seek housing and employment. Family Promise has computers available for a family’s use. Families meet with their caseworker each week to discuss their goals and progress made toward their goals.
