Need Help?
Service Name
Family Promise of the Lakeshore’s Emergency Shelter program serves Lakeshore families with a variety of shelter options located in Muskegon, Oceana and Ottawa Counties. Our goal whenever possible is to serve families in their home city or county through our Master Leasing Scattered Site Family Shelter units. These shelters are region specific and designed to serve children in their home community.
Our static site shelter location in Muskegon can serve families from throughout the Lakeshore region, with the goal of helping them obtain housing in the community where they work and their children attend school.
To qualify for emergency shelter, a family must have a child under the age of 18 in the household every night. Family Promise takes a child centered view of family, so parents do not have to be married, and families of all composition are allowed to participate in the program. Our private shelter rooms and units, allow us to serve people of all genders, as well as multi parent and multigenerational families.
Families entering our program are expected to meet with a Case Manager within 72 hours of entering shelter. Each family will work with Case Management to create a housing focused case plan. Participating families will meet with our Case Manager at least twice a week for an hour each time, they will attend life skills classes, establish income, prepare a budget, and save 80% of the income they earn while in our program.
Life Skills Classes Include

•Love and Logic Parenting
•Good Tenancy

Referrals are made to our community partners, to resolve the issues that lead to each family’s experience with homelessness. These include referrals to employment services, SOAR assessment and referrals, Physical and mental health referrals, addiction resources, HARA referrals and many more. Families participating in this program are also offered the opportunity to participate in a mentorship program with local leadership clubs and communities of faith.
Please note that while we partner with communities of faith to provide services, there are no religious requirements for any services at Family Promise of the Lakeshore.
