
About Family Promise
Family Promise of the Lakeshore is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, independently affiliated with the national organization founded in 1988 and comprised of 200 affiliates in more than 40 states (www.familypromise.org). This model brings diverse communities together to address family homelessness by providing shelter and hospitality in church facilities and casework support services, life skills classes, and other support at the Day Center.
Family Promise of the Lakeshore began serving homeless families in November of 2009. We partner with the community to bring warm meals to our residents There is a volunteer opportunity for everyone.
Shelter: Family Promise is a static site shelter. Support congregations provide volunteers, activities, and supplies during the week. The volunteers provide meals, evening and a sense of community. Family Promise staff and community volunteers also provide weekly Life Skills classes in budgeting, nutrition, and landlord/tenant rights and responsibilities, and just recently—Love and Logic Parenting classes.
Day Center: At the Day Center Family Promise staff provides case management, referrals, Life Skills classes and other support services needed. The families are able to conduct housing and job searches with the use of the Day Center computer lab, phones, and play room for children. Some kitchen facilities are available.
Family Promise of the Lakeshore serves Muskegon County and northern Ottawa County and participates in the local Homeless Continuum of Care addressing issues of homelessness and housing.
